Hey guys I have been seeing redact all over reddit where it says “this post was edited with redact” or whatever. I have a huge reddit history and I have been waiting/wanting/thinking of deleting my reddit account.
I am curious, does redact software delete your reddit history or edit your old comments?
pretty sure it does both, it’s been almost two years since I used the Reddit tools, but I am 99% sure you can edit or delete your old reddit posts. I think people use the edit old posts feature to beat all the archiving tools, so after they remove their reddit account the archiving tools don’t keep all your content online for years and years.
tbh, that reddit comment editing feature is really annoying. literally multiple times per week I will be reading a reddit thread and I’m about to get to the main point/comment/information or whatever and BAM I get smacked in the face with the “this comment has been mass edited by redact.dev”. God it can be so anoying!@!@!!
lmao I actually agree with debbie, it seems like almost daily the mass reddit post editing feature ruins one of the reddit threads I am reading. Should we start a petition to get the feature removed?
Honestly the edit feature is the underrated piece of this.
When I did my big reddit cleanup last summer I edited everything to a clean replacement message first then waited a few weeks for the archives to catch up then nuked it all. Now even the wayback machine and pushshift cached versions show “scrubbed by Redact” instead of my old hot takes from 2017.
Edit first to overwrite the archives, delete later to clean up the live site. Worth knowing about if you’re serious about a fresh start
Reddit is uniquely annoying because they keep edit history visible to mods so the overwrite step actually matters. The order matters too, edit first then delete is the proper sequence not the other way round.
