How come I can't change my business page name on facebook? Is there a workaround?

Backstory is we rebranded back in january and the page still has the old name on it which is now confusing customers who look us up and think we closed down. So I go into page settings then page info, changed the name, psuh save. it sat there saying under review for about four days and then came back denied. NO REASON given other than it does not follow our page naming standards. The new name is literally just our business name. Its not in all caps, theres no weird punctuation, no extra keywords stuffed in it. Name is exactly what is on the sign out front and on all our paperwork. So I wait a week and submitted it again. Denied again, took two days that time.

Did it through business suite instead of the page itself, same result. tried on desktop instead of my phone, same. Checked that im listed as a full admin and not an editor, confirmed. The page has been active for six years with no strikes or violations on it that im aware of. Is there an actual appeal for this or do you just keep resubmitting and hope a different reviewer looks at it. Has anyone gotten a page name change approved recently and knows what actually works.

going through this right now too and its been six weeks. glad its not just me but also deeply unhelpful to know that there are others in the same boat.

Man I been through this exact crap. Thing nobody tell you is that the name review is not really checking if your name is a valid business name or not. It’s checking whether the change looks like the page is becoming a different page all together.

Meta treats a big name change as a possible page repurpose. That’s when someone builds up a page with a real audience and then flips it to something unrelated, or sells it. That’s the abuse pattern the check exists for. So the further your new name is from the old one, the more it trips. If you rebranded to something that shares no words with the old name, you are hitting exactly the case the automation is tuned to catch.

Which is why the denial reason is useless. It is not saying your name is bad, it’s saying the gap between old and new is bigger than it will approve automatically. The standards wording is the generic bucket every rejection falls into.

That also explains why resubmitting the same request keeps failing. Nothing about the input changed, so nothing about the output will either. You have to change what the reviewer sees around the request, not the request itself.

Read:

What’s the business profile name currently and what are you trying to change it to?

2 things you should know about the resubmission process.

There’s a cooldown after a successful name change, generally cited as around sixty days, during which further changes are refused automatically. Thats separate from denials If the page had any name change in the recent past you are fighting a timer, not a reviewer. Check Page Transparency on your own page, it shows the name change history.

Repeated failed requests are themselves a signal. Submitting the same rejected change over and over looks like someone probing for a reviewer who will let it through, which is exactly what page sellers do. I cant prove from the outside that it makes things worse but the behaviour people describe in these threads is consistent with it.

Practical version, treat every attempt as expensive. Change something meaningful about your situation between tries and leave real time between them. Two well prepared attempts a month apart will beat eight identical ones.

Something worth trying that has worked for people I know is doing it in stages rather than making one big jump.

Instead of going from the old name to the new name, first change it to something containing both.

So like: Old Name New Name or Old Name trading as New Name. That reads as a much smaller change, so it tends to pass. Then wait out their cooldown, usually like around sixty days or so then change it again from the combined version to just the new name. That second jump is also small because most of the words carry over.

It’s slower, and it looks a bit awkward on your page for a couple of months. But it gets you there without needing anyone at Meta to make a decision about you, which is the main advantage.

I’ve seen this work myself.

What worked for us was doing the business verification. Not the blue check the boring one in you can find in tyheir Security Centre. You actually submit legal docs we used articles of incorporation plus a utility bill with the address. Once the legal entity was verified the name change went through next try with zero argument. It turns the name from a judgement call into a checkable fact, takes about a week and a half but it fixes it permanently and they don’t mess with you anymore. If you have some legal docs available I’d highly recommend trying it.

DO NOT make a new page you’ll lose 6 years of reviews and history that dont transfer over to the new page. The real problem is customers thinking you closed and you can fix THAT today, pin a rebrand post and update the about and intro. The name field is the slow problem the confusion is the fast one.

Why not upload a logo or banner image that has the correct name/logo/branding so that at least the people who land there know they’re in the right place?
