I’m not sure what’s up but for the past week my tiktok algorithm is so screwed up. I get nothing but unfunny ai-slop videos and weird unfunny videos from huge accounts with tons of followers and posts. But these big mainstream accounts are also posting absolute crap content.
How do I clear my FYP and start over?
Nah its not you. Mine turned into my own watch history with ads mixed in, it was bazaar. counted six videos in a row the other night that I already seen this week. It been like 10 days for me now and I am about to throw the towel in cause this is BS
my fyp is just my liked page with extra steps at this point haha
Suddenly half my feed is in languages I do not speak and I never searched for any of it. Just one day it was fine and the next day it was like someone else was using my account.
The obvious answer is to use redact and wipe your entire history off tiktok, give the recommendation engine no choice but to re-evaluate your tastes
You know the following tab is a completely separate system from the for you page right? Different ranking, different infrastructure etc.
So if your FYP is unusable right now the following tab is your fallback and it is not affected by any of this. It’s also the one place where what you actually chose to follow still determines what you see. its chronological-ish and it is a lot smaller, but it works. The other reason to know this is that if your following tab is ALSO broken, showing you people you never followed or nothing but lives, that’s a different problem to the fyp one and the fyp refresh will not fix it.
Did the refresh about ten days ago. first two days were rough, just generic viral stuff with no personality at all. bUT By day four it was already better than what i had before it broke. worth doing but dont judge it on day one or even day 3.
The repeats are a small candidate pool problem. When the personalization signal is weak it keeps pulling from a tiny set it has confident scores on and your already-liked stuff is the only thing in there it KNOWS you liked so it just serves that back at you on a loop. its not showing you your history to spite you its literally the only cards it holds. This is likely what’s going on. I’m always for bashing tiktok, but in this case I think it’s not really their fault.
You know, the “not interested” button feels useless because watch time massively outweighs it IMO. The seconds you spend long pressing to find it feed more positive signal than the negative you sent. Block the account instead its a hard filter that sticks, especially on FB. I block everything on FB.
